Projects in Germany

Some projects are available only for volunteers from particular countries. This depends on the promotion programme of the EU or on expected language skills. Applicants will get more information in their ASF office.

Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste - Berlin
Support the summer camp department: organization of summer camps, public relation work, seminars, event management.

Asyl in der Kirche (Church Asylum) - Berlin
Support of the office of the information center. Social assistance for refugees. The project is combined with Zwangslager Marzahn.

Arolsen Archives. International Center on Nazi Persecution – Bad Arolsen
Archive and documentation centre on persecution during National Socialism. Research of individuals‘ fates. Work with the digital archive. Support of projects in research / education. Translation work, accompanying visitors, digitalisation and indexing.

Augustaschacht Memorial- Osnabrück
Assistance in the archive and in the memorial site. Give guided tours of the exhibition and the site, visit schools, and take part in seminars and other programmes of the memorial site, such as summer camps. Accompanying former prisoners who are visiting the memorial site.

Brandenburg Memorial - Brandenburg (close to Berlin)
Support the archives, research for  exhibition, correspondence with former prisoners, support of public relation work and at events, ,give guided tours to students and pupils.

Buchenwald Concentration Camp Memorial - Weimar
Support work in the archive, guide tours through the exhibition and the site,  take part in seminars and youth programmes, such as international summer camps. Accompanying former prisoners who are guests of the memorial site.

Cooperative Mensch - Berlin

Support of people with disabilities, offer day time activities, assistance at meals, assistance and support in daily activities. Group work and individual assistance. This project is combined with work in the ASF office in Berlin, in the Brandenburg memorial or in the Sachsenhausen Memorial.

Diakoniewerk Simeon – Berlin
Offer day time activities for people with special needs (intellectual disabilities or psychic illnesses). Assistance at meals, assistance and support in sports, creative activities and handicrafts. Group work and individual assistance.

Grandhotel Cosmopolis - Augsburg
Hotel, refugee hostel and artists workshops at once. Support and assist the refugees. Educational, cultural and artistic activities. Assistance at the cafeteria and at the hotel. This position is  available only for volunteers from France!

Kreisau-Initiative - Berlin
Support the office of the initiative by doing office work, public relations work and fundraising. Take part in planning and realising international meetings and seminars in Germany and in Poland.

Memorial and Educational Site House of the Wannsee Conference - Berlin
Accompany visiting tour groups (mainly school classes and younger adults), give tours and seminars, work in the library and the document archives.

Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial - Hamburg
Help in the archives, take part in seminars and programmes of the memorial site, such as summer camps. Correspondence with former prisoners and accompanying them while being guests of the memorial site. This project is combined with visiting services for seniors in Hamburg (Solidarity for the Elderly).

Protestant Church of Reconciliation at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial - Dachau
Attending visitors and visiting groups to the Church of Reconciliation and in the memorial site. Working at the project “Gedächtnisbuch” and possibly taking part in the annual International Youth Meeting Dachau.

Psychosoziale Arbeit mit Verfolgten e. V. - Hamburg
Visiting service for people who have been persecuted during National Socialism and their relatives. This position is combined with work at the Memorial Neuengamme

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial - Berlin / Oranienburg
Give guided tours of the exhibition and the site and take part in seminars and programmes at the memorial site, such as work camps. Accompanying former prisoners.

Zwangslager Marzhan - Berlin                                                                                           Support in setting up the library, help in organising events, cooperation in guided tours. The project is combined with Asyl in der Kirche.
