February - Interviews

A complete application is required before applicants are invited for interview. The interview is an opportunity to learn more about us. You must, after all, decide for yourself whether or not ARSP is the right organization for you just as much as ARSP must decide if you would work well with our programme. This meeting also gives us time to talk about and consider which project would be best suited for you.

The interview usually takes place within the ARSP offices in your home country. In some countries information and selection seminars take place. Due to travel time and costs, interviews in larger countries (such as the United States and Russia), may be conducted over the phone.

March - Contract

At the end of March we have worked through all of the applications and decided which applicants will be accepted as new volunteers. After having been accepted, you will receive a contract, stating which project you have been selected for, from ARSP by mail. This contract must be signed and sent back to ARSP within two weeks. If there are too many applicants for our programme, you may be on a waiting list until a final decision is taken at the end of April.

From April until August - Preparation for Service

Please use the time between the your acceptance confirmation and the beginning of your service well by intensely preparing yourself for your peace service before it begins. We recommend improving your language skills as much as possible, volunteering at social service projects within your community or participating in an ASF summer work camp. Make contact with former and current ASF volunteers from your country and also with the volunteers now serving in your future project. We also ask that you contact your project partners. In addition there are some administrative tasks to manage:

- You need to send a medical and a dental certificate, made out after May 1st.
- Some people have to apply for a visa.
- All volunteers start looking for financial sponsors…

From September 1st - Peace Service with ASF

Your service will begin on September 1st and it will last 12 months. The year will begin with a preparation seminar. During the service, there will be three additional seminars.
