Lothar Kreyssig, the founder of Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (ARSP), will be honoured by Yad Vashem and the State of Israel as a Righteous among the Nations.
Lothar Kreyssig was a German judge during the Weimar and Nazi era who attempted to stop the Nazi euthanasia program. After the Second World War in 1958 he founded the volunteer organization Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste. Kreyssig was a fascinating figure: committed judge, devout Christian, man of peace, keen farmer, and restless creative mind behind many organizations and initiatives in post-war Germany. During the Nazi period, Kreyssig and his wife hid two Jewish women. Therefore Yad Vashem decided 2017 to honour him as a Righteous among the Nations.
